A Note on Our Grip Choices (opens in new tab)

Considered by many to be the finest hurls in Ireland, the Dowling family has been handcrafting hurleys in Kilkenny since 1957. Now in their third generation of hurleymakers, Star hurleys are still made from 100% Irish ash. Hand finished with a spoke shave and sanded to a smooth finish, you can rest assured that every Star hurley you use is deserving of the distinctive stamp that it bears!

These hurls have a Kilkenny-style profile.  Due to each hurley's hand-crafted nature, it's hard to say exactly what you'll get (you can request weight and balance if you'd like in the comment section during your checkout process and we'll try to accommodate) but generally the Kilkenny hurls are slightly lighter and thinner (specifically through the handle) than our L'Ash hurls, which are a Wexford profile.  Anecdotally, the Star hurley I play with is 560 grams gripped while the L'Ash hurl I play with (which is, admittedly, an absolute unit) is 680 grams gripped.  They're both 34"s.  Because of their distinctive thin-but-wide handle profile, the Star hurls have more flex to them during routine play.  The thicknesses of the bas on each is nearly identical, with the Star hurls having a more pronounced toe while the L'Ash hurls have smoother curves throughout and an ever-so-slightly larger bas.  The Star hurls also have a slightly longer, more pointed handle butt than their Wexford counterparts.

UPDATE:  We're still waiting on a number of hurls to complete the existing pre-orders.  Those will still go out first as soon as we get them in stock (they're primarily 20-32" as well as all GKs).  We're going to shut off pre-orders for now in an attempt to build up our own inventory moving forward.

If you're looking for an ash hurl that is currently in stock, check out our selection of Martin Ash Hurleys here!

We've done a lot of research on Canadian shipping and the options that we have available at checkout are the best choices we have found to date.  They're not the cheapest available up-front price, but they are the most transparent.

A common issue with shipping goods from the US to Canada is couriers asking for hefty "Collect on Delivery" fees from customers in addition to the price you paid in shipping on the site.  The options we have available include customs/duties as well as brokerage fees so the only potential additional fee will be taxes.  If you are charged customs or brokerage fees upon delivery of an AH parcel, please contact us and we'll cover those fees for you.

Additionally, the shipping costs for multiple items doesn't increase much over the cost of a single item as long as we can fit them in the same type of packaging.  Due to this, if possible, it's a great idea to set up a single order with friends (or to build up a wish list of a few items yourself before placing an order) rather than purchasing separate shipments of single items more frequently.

We're constantly monitoring our options and if any better/more economical shipping options come available we'll be sure to update those here on our website!

For a more in-depth look into this topic, we have a blog post dedicated to this subject available here!
